Translations are read-only.

What it does

Open a transcript, choose Translate, search for a language and start. The original stays unchanged. The translation is a separate version that you switch to in the editor, and you can export it like the original.

Translation works segment by segment. Each segment keeps its place in time and its speaker. Translations are machine-made and read-only, so have a fluent reader check anything you publish.

  • Keeps segment boundaries, start times, end times and speakers.
  • Switch between the original and any translation in the editor.
  • Export a translation as TXT, DOCX, PDF, SRT or VTT.
  • If you edit the original afterwards, the translation shows that it is out of date so you can translate again.

How it works

  1. Open a finished transcript and choose Translate. On Free the dialog explains that translation is part of Unlimited.
  2. Search for the target language and start the translation.
  3. Wait for it to finish. A long transcript takes longer, and the progress is shown.
  4. Switch to the translation in the editor to read it, then export it.

Questions

Is translation free?

Not on Free. It is included in the Unlimited plans at no extra price, with the daily allowance shown above.

How many languages can I translate into?

You pick from a searchable list in the app when you start a translation. The list is longer than the 38+ languages Scribewren transcribes.

Can I edit a translation?

No. Translations are read-only. Correct the original transcript and translate it again.

Can I get translated subtitles?

Yes. Choose the translation as the version when you export SRT or VTT. Timing comes from the original segments.

Are translations accurate?

They are machine translations and can contain mistakes, especially with names, jargon and idioms. Ask a fluent reader to check anything you publish.
