Transcribe sermons
Upload a sermon recording and get a transcript you can edit for a bulletin, a study guide or captions on the recorded service.
How it works
- Upload the audio or video from the service.
- Choose the language of the sermon and start the transcription.
- Check scripture references, names and any quoted passages against the source.
- Export DOCX for a bulletin or study guide, or SRT or VTT for captions.
A sermon reaches the people in the room once. A transcript lets it reach more: the member who was away that week, the neighbour who prefers reading, the study group that wants to work through the passage together. Many communities already record their services; a transcript turns those files into something that can be searched, quoted and printed.
The main care point is accuracy where it matters most. Names of people and places, and any quoted text, deserve a human check. A sermon rich in scripture or poetry will contain phrases that a transcript renders in everyday words, so keep the source text open as you edit. Once the text is right, the same file can feed a printed bulletin, a discussion guide and a set of captions for the recorded video.
Making it accessible
Captions help people who are deaf or hard of hearing, but also anyone watching without sound. Export SRT or VTT from the edited transcript and attach it to your recording. Playing the video once with captions on, before you publish, is the simplest way to catch a mistake.
Tips
- Record from the sound desk feed if there is one; a phone at the back of a large hall picks up echo.
- Check every quoted verse and reference against the text itself, since spoken citations are easy to mishear.
- Keep a short list of names, places and terms your community uses, so corrections are quick.
- Add captions to the recorded service so members who are deaf or hard of hearing can follow.
Questions
Can it handle scripture quotations?
It transcribes what is spoken, but references and quoted passages can be misheard. Check them against the text before you share.
Can I use it for captions on a streamed service?
Yes. Export SRT or VTT and load it with the recorded video. Review the timing and wording before publishing.
My congregation speaks more than one language. Does that work?
Scribewren supports 38+ languages. Pick the main language of the recording, and test a short clip if the talk switches between languages.
How long can a service recording be?
Unlimited accepts files up to 10 hours. On Free, only the first 30 minutes are transcribed.
