Acceptable Use Policy

Last updated 2026-10-16

Draft - pending lawyer review. Not yet in force.

This policy is part of the Terms of Service agreed with [[LEGAL ENTITY NAME - PT Perorangan]] ("Scribewren"). It applies to everything you upload, everything the service produces for you, and how you use your account.

1. Scope

The rules below cover all uploads, outputs and account activity, on every plan.

2. Copyright and rights

Upload only content you own or are allowed to transcribe, subtitle or translate. Do not bypass copy protection, and do not download media from platforms against their terms. Scribewren has no link-import feature for that reason. If you upload a video from a platform, it must be your own.

3. Consent to record

You alone are responsible for getting every consent the law requires before you record a conversation and before you upload it.

  • In places that need consent from everyone in a conversation, you must have it from everyone recorded. In the United States this is commonly the rule in California, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Washington, and is more nuanced in Connecticut, Michigan, Nevada and Oregon. Laws change, so check the current rule for your case.
  • Many other countries, such as Germany, also restrict recording private speech without consent.
  • Tell everyone you are recording.

4. Illegal content

Do not upload:

  • child sexual abuse material. We have zero tolerance and report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and to the authorities as the law requires;
  • content that promotes terrorism or violent extremism;
  • content obtained by unlawful interception;
  • stolen or leaked confidential recordings whose publication is unlawful.

5. Harm to people

Do not use Scribewren to harass, stalk, dox or covertly surveil anyone. Do not use transcripts to make automated decisions about a person's employment, credit or housing without a lawful basis.

6. Privacy of others

Do not upload other people's personal data unless you have a lawful basis. If someone asks you to honour a data request about material you uploaded, honour it.

7. Voice and identity

Do not impersonate anyone. Do not try to use the service to identify who a speaker is. Scribewren does not offer voice cloning, and our payment partner also restricts non-consensual voice cloning and deepfakes.

8. Abuse of the service

Do not:

  • open multiple accounts to get around Free limits;
  • resell or white-label the service without a written agreement;
  • access it by automated means other than an official API, once we offer one;
  • run load tests;
  • reverse engineer it beyond what the law permits;
  • upload malware.

9. Security research

Good-faith security research is welcome. Report findings to [email protected], access no data beyond your own account, and give us reasonable time to fix the problem before you disclose it. We will not take legal action against research that follows these rules.

10. Enforcement

We do not proactively review private content, and our staff cannot view it. We act on reports and on legal requests. Actions include removing content, suspending or terminating accounts, and reporting to the authorities. You can appeal to [email protected] within 14 days.

11. Reporting

Report abuse or copyright concerns to [email protected]. Copyright notices follow the Copyright Policy. Takedown requests from Indonesian authorities are handled under our electronic system operator obligations.
