How to read this page
Descript and Scribewren overlap on transcription but are different tools. Descript is a workspace for editing audio and video, and it edits them by editing the transcript. Scribewren stops at the text: you upload a file and get an editable transcript, subtitles and notes.
Every Descript figure was read from its pricing page on 2026-10-16. Prices and limits change, so recheck them on Descript's pricing page before you decide. Ours are on our pricing page.
Which job do you have
If the job is producing an edited recording, Descript is the tool built for it, and its included minutes are part of that. If the job is getting text out of recordings you already have, an editor is more than you need, and the question becomes how much audio you process each month.
What this page does not cover
We have not compared transcript quality or AI notes between the two. Run the same file through both and read the results.
Which one fits
Where Descript is stronger
- Descript lets you edit audio and video by editing the text. Scribewren does not edit media at all.
- It is a full workspace for producing recordings, with transcription as one part. Scribewren does one job.
Choose Descript when
- You edit podcasts or videos and want transcription inside the same tool.
- You already pay for Descript and its included minutes cover your transcription.
Choose Scribewren when
- You only need text, subtitles or notes, and an editor would be more than you use.
- Your volume would pass the monthly minutes on a metered plan.
- You want exports to TXT, DOCX, PDF, SRT and VTT, translation on the Unlimited plan, and a 30-day money-back guarantee on the first purchase.
