Ukrainian recordings in the past few years often come with high stakes: journalism, documentation projects, humanitarian and legal work, and family archives. Ukrainian has its own letters. The characters є, і, ї and ґ do not appear in Russian, and an apostrophe marks the hard sound in words like "дев'ятий". When these are missing, words change or become unreadable, so scan for them first. The apostrophe is also easy to get wrong in exports because several characters look alike.
Many speakers mix Ukrainian with Russian in everyday speech, a blend called Surzhyk, and many switch between the two depending on the situation. Choose Ukrainian for the file and keep in mind that mixed passages may need work by hand. Regional accents from west to east also differ.

Surzhyk mixes the two languages. It may come out as a blend, so mark those stretches for a manual check.
Is the apostrophe in words like дев'ятий kept?
Yes, it is part of the spelling. Different keyboards produce different apostrophe characters, so normalise it in the editor if it matters.
