Schůzka začíná v devět hodin. EN The meeting starts at nine o'clock. An example sentence for illustration, not transcript output.
Notes on Czech
- Script
- Latin alphabet with háčky (ě, š, č, ř, ž) and čárky (á, é, í, ó, ú, ý)
- Spoken vs written
- Everyday 'Common Czech' differs noticeably from the literary standard in word endings
- Neighbour
- Closely related to Slovak, and many speakers understand both
Czech has a lively gap between how people speak and how they write. In everyday speech, especially around Prague and in Bohemia, vowels and endings change in ways that the literary standard does not show, and many words get contracted. A transcript records the speech that was actually recorded, which is useful for research and frustrating when you wanted a tidy document. Decide up front whether you want a verbatim record or a cleaned-up text.
The alphabet is the other detail. Czech uses háčky and čárky on many letters, and these marks do real work: a missing one can turn a word into another word. The editor preserves them, but names, street names and surnames are still the most common corrections. Accuracy varies with audio quality, accents and background noise, and fast conversational speech with overlaps takes the most review.
Typical Czech recordings include university lectures, podcast conversations, municipal meetings and interviews that are partly in Moravian dialects. Moravian speech can differ from Prague speech in sound and vocabulary. Each line has a timestamp and speaker label, so verifying a doubtful word takes seconds. Originals are deleted within 24 hours and are never used for training.
Questions
Will the transcript follow the literary or the spoken form?
A transcript follows what is said as far as it can, so you may see colloquial forms. Edit them to the formal register if the text is for publication.
Does it keep the ř and ů characters?
Yes, the Czech alphabet is supported with its diacritics. Check proper names, since a missing mark can change the meaning.
Can I use it for Czech and Slovak interviews together?
Czech and Slovak are different languages. Pick the language each speaker uses, and review passages where speakers answer in the other one.
How do I handle long council meetings?
Upload the full recording. Speaker labels and timestamps let you jump to each agenda item, and DOCX export suits formal minutes.
