Slovak speakers number in the millions but recordings in Slovak are often kept inside small organisations: schools, regional newsrooms, town councils and research teams. A transcript turns those files into something searchable, quotable and easy to share.
The relationship with Czech is the thing outsiders ask about first. The two languages share many words and grammar patterns, and Slovaks and Czechs have long understood each other. For a transcript, that matters in two ways: some words exist in both languages with different meanings, and speakers who spent time in the Czech Republic may use Czech forms. Selecting Slovak and proofreading these words is enough for most files.
Slovak also has letters that do not exist in most languages, such as ä, ĺ, ľ and ô. They are part of the spelling, so a missing mark changes the word. Search for common words that use them to see if any were dropped.
Research interviews, one-to-one talks recorded on a phone, and meeting minutes are typical uses. Speaker labels keep dialogues readable, and the editable transcript can go out as DOCX, PDF, SRT, VTT or TXT.
Questions
Can Slovak be told apart from Czech?
The two languages are close, and some speakers mix words from both. Select Slovak, and proofread words that exist in both languages with different meanings.
Do eastern Slovak dialects work?
Dialects vary a lot between regions. Results vary with accent, audio quality and background noise, so test a clip from each speaker.
How are letters like ô and ľ handled?
They belong to the Slovak alphabet and should appear in the transcript. If one slips, correct it in the editor.
Can I get an English version of a Slovak interview?
Translation is included in Unlimited. Transcribe the recording first, then translate the transcript.
